131. Kyoto University - Graduate School of Science - Faculty of Science - Division of Physics and Astronomy
     The Division of Physics and Astronomy consists of three research departments.
     The Department of Physics I and the Department of Physics II both work on elucidating the universal, fundamental laws of the natural world. While Physics I concentrates its efforts on the field of condensed matter physics, Physics II focuses mainly on the fields of particle physics, nuclear physics, and astrophysics. The Department of Astronomy aims to study phenomena in space, based on techniques used in astronomy and astrophysics.
In the Division of Physics and Astronomy, we address the important problems of each field on a wide range, conducting both theoretical, experimental and observational studies. We continually aim to conduct fundamental research in order to maintain one of the highest levels of research worldwide and to train excellent researchers to carry on with the traditions of research at our departments.

132. Kyoto University - Institute of Chemical Research
     Institute for Chemical Research, launched in 1926 as the first research institute at Kyoto University, will celebrate its 85th anniversary in 2011, but its true roots date back to 1915 (Special Institute of Chemical Research founded at Kyoto Imperial University, College of Science for the study of special medicinal substances,"Salvarsans"). In 2004, we have reached the current large-scale organization of five research divisions and three centers. Currently, 99 faculty members and 230 graduate students are engaged in research activities in 32 laboratories supervised by full-time professors and 5 laboratories supervised by visiting professors.
     The research within the Institute encompasses the fields of chemistry, physics, biology, and informatics. The chemical studies core covers fields including physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, materials chemistry, and biochemistry. The graduate schools to which our laboratories belong cover diverse fields of Science, engineering, pharmaceutical Sciences, agriculture, medicine, informatics, and human/environmental studies. The laboratories at the graduate schools are spearheading leading-edge research, and yielding outstanding results in their own research areas. Our founding vision is to "Excel in the Investigation of Basic Principles of Chemistry and Their Applications." This legacy continues to the present day and describes the essence of our research activities. With this vision in mind, we have entrusted our scientists to choose and pursue research topics at the forefront of advanced chemistry with bottom-up paradigms; this has resulted in substantial contributions to the development of scientific technology. Such accomplishments are proof of our vision of freedom and a bottom-up approach in chemical research. Whether or not the human race can generate sustainable growth is a key issue of the 21st century. In order to contribute to the future of our society, we encourage our scientists to be actively involved in research projects with bottom-up approach in mind, and to value the emergence of unique interdisciplinary research projects.
     The Institute is currently collaborating with domestic/oversea universities and research organizations (with 52 official international collaboration agreements) and is functioning as a Joint Usage/Research Center supported by MEXT (2010-2016). In addition, the Institute participates the MEXT Project of Integrated Research on Chemical Synthesis (2010-2016) as one of the key members of core research institutions. The strong collaboration basis so far constructed in-house and also with outside ensures the Institute to serve as the core of global research propellers in chemistry-oriented fields.

133. LEAD Computer Science Institute
     Stanford University's Office of Science Outreach (OSO) encourages and assists Stanford faculty to engage in Science outreach -- organized activities targeted at our nation's youth, school teachers, and general public that will increase their interest, understanding, and involvement in math, Science, and engineering.
     Reporting to Stanford's Dean of Research, the OSO serves faculty throughout the University by assisting them in creating outreach project ideas and proposals, identifying potential partners for them (both within Stanford as well as K-14 schools, Science museums, etc), and facilitating information and resource sharing among all of the University's Science outreach programs. In addition, the OSO directs several programs in which Stanford faculty and their students can participate. These include:
   - An 8-week summer research fellowship program for Science teachers
   - RISE, a 7-week summer internship program for high school students
   - Academic-year research internships for Foothill College students
   - Events and programs for undergraduates from other colleges to learn about research in Stanford labs
   - Visits to the Stanford campus by K-12 student groups
   - Participation in the Bay Area Science Festival

135. London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) - Department of Geography and Environment

     The department has an international reputation for development of statistical methodology that has grown from its long history of active contributions to research and teaching in statistics for the social Sciences. The professors in the department are: Lenny Smith and Qiwei Yao, with visiting professors Jianqing Fan, Peter Hall, Ruediger Kiesel and Jozef Teugels and emeritus professors Anthony Atkinson, David Bartholomew, Jim Durbin, Ragnar Norberg, Howell Tong and Henry Wynn. The head of department is Dr Irini Moustaki.
     We run three undergraduate honours degree courses: BSc Actuarial Science, BSc Business Mathematics and Statistics and BSc Statistics with Finance. These courses enable students who have enjoyed maths at A-level to develop their skills in mathematics and statistics. BSc Actuarial Science can also lead to exemptions from the 100 series of the Institute of Actuaries examinations. Emphasis is given to areas with practical applications in commerce, insurance, finance and government.

138. Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich, the Faculty of Physics
     In the spirit of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat (LMU) Munich, the Faculty of Physics stands for comprehensive education and innovative research in the Sciences.      The Faculty of Physics recognized long ago that it would be impossible to reach its goals without strong partners. For this reason, when filling teaching positions, we place a lot of value in only hiring people with international contacts. For years the faculty has relied on major partners and will continue to develop its joint work with other institutions and organizations. We enjoy particularly close relationships with the Max Planck Society and the Bavarian Academy of Science as well as a number of businesses from the private sector. It is only with additional resources that we are able to offer students in Munich the full array of physics in all its scientific facets.
